Among other things that make them stand out, people who like to dress in the emo fashion have a definite preference in footwear.  Emo shoes are a necessary accessory to help complete the overall look.  Certainly there is some variation in what people wear.  It isn’t as though the shoe police are going to kick down your door if you wear the wrong thing, but in the emo fashion world, a few certain styles stand out.  A couple of these are throwbacks to much earlier days, well before many people wearing them today were born.  For the ladies, there are flats and ballerina slippers. For the guys, classic Vans and Converse top the list.

The shoe makers are not stupid.  They pay attention when something starts to sell.  I’m sure as soon as the big dogs at Converse and Vans realized that there was a subculture focusing on their products, ten different focus groups were formed to figure out the best way to give these young shoppers exactly what they wanted.  Especially since both of these brands were pretty much past their glory days, they had to be more than willing to jump at the chance to cater to the emo market.  New colors and styles made for today’s feet were introduced and will certainly continue to be brought to market for as long as there is a willing public waiting to buy whatever is offered.  Emo skaters love Vans.  Vans makes an outstanding shoe for skaters.  A match made in heaven.  There are loads of different colors and styles of this footwear available, and you can bet they’ll just keep on coming.

Watch some old black and white television shows featuring kids, and you will see the roots of Converse All-Star high top sneakers.  They were extremely popular and every kid wanted a pair.  When the seventies and eighties came along, names like Nike, Reebok, Pony, Adidas, and others started to take over the shoe market.  Punk culture and more recently, emo types have given new life to these old favorites.

For girls who like the emo look, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of styles of ballerina flats to choose from today.  These shoes are inexpensive, comfortable and offer the look wanted by emo girls.  A side benefit for the sellers of these shoes is that after introducing new colors and styles, many non-emo shoppers also became interested.  Cash registers sang and manufacturers were inspired to make even more new looks and styles.
